OfflineHi,
Yes Joji, that's me, hansom aren't I, and I am not frightened to front up personally, like most people on the net.
Sorry Lucutus, but it says in my profile I'm from New Zealand.
However, I am half English , and half Greek, and emigrated to New Zealand in 1982.
Now, lets put the hard word on you two, ARE YOU GOING TO PROVIDE THE SAME DETAILS ABOUT YOURSELVES, and become real people. Bet you find a way to avoid it.
Regards Bill.
Offline@ Bill: Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous people in cyber space, so being careful about what information is put out there I personally find to be a wise choice. But each to their own. It's an individual decision as to how to much or how little people choose to make known of themselves – and those decisions should be respected. It has nothing to do with not being "real people" (I think you'll find nothing but good and "real" people in this space) – it is about common sense. And while it's great that you want to put it all out there for all to see, I hope you can respect other people's decisions not to take the same route.

@ Gioneo: What is WITSEC?
http://www.acronymfinder.com/Witness-Security-%28WITSEC%29.html
Witness Security apparently.
Offline@ Locutus: Ah, I see. Well, yes, I guess that'd qualify as a good reason not to post details about yourself. But irrespective of a person being in a witness protection program, it's always a personal choice. I just think it's better to be safe than sorry. There are a couple of people from dotTech who have become my online friends, and I'm glad this space has given me the opportunity to get to know them better away from dotTech. And I hope that more such friendships develop.

Hi Everybody,
I knew you'd find a subterfuge to keeping yourselves secret. Just tell me, what is anybody going to do with such broad details of myself, except appreciate me as a person.
I even find computer people are so paranoid, that they are frightened to phone me, when they have bought something from me on Trademe, and then they let me come round to their house to collect it. Amazing !!!
Anyway each to their own, and I'm not the boss of the world.
Finally, I only made a suggestion for your benefit, I'm not setting myself up as ruler of your lives.
Regards Bill3.
Offline@ Bill3: I don't know about anyone else, but personally I take exception to the term "subterfuge". You are lucky you have had no bad experiences on the internet. Others may well have. Please respect other's decisions without making such value judgments.
OfflineThat WITSEC thing… Humor attempt. I'm not in witsec and don't think anyone else around here either (but you never know…)
@Bill3 : You are absolutly right. Lots of people are paranoid when it comes to the net and privacy. This mainly because they've heard stories or had bad experiences themselves. Can't really blame them for that. In fact I know quite a few of them, so I kinda make it my duty to "try" and explain to them the benefits AND dangers of the net when it comes to privacy matters.
As for me, if someone wants to know something about me, all they have to do is ask (bank accounts, social, assets etc. excluded please!). I won't post my picture out there for 2 reasons:
1) I don't look good enough
2) Don't want anyone making me look worse than I already am! (Amazing what they can come up with…)
@Phoenix: Never fails to put a smile on my face. Thank You.
Offlineamnesia said: If there was nothing to fear we quite possibly would be more open.
Precisely. As I said, better to be safe than sorry. And at the end of day, people's decisions should be respected, not criticised or belittled. That ain't nice behaviour.
@ Gioneo: Glad I made someone smile, as inadvertent as it was …

Hi Everyone,
well this little subject really has got you all stirred up. I wonder if Joji is a girl ?
Dear old Pheonix_Rising, taking exception to subterfuge, it only means excuse in this context. Never mind, most big words sound insulting, try :-
Oligopoly to you mate………………..Your bound to get a reaction to that.
Or if the girlfriend is getting a bit stoppy, try :- Your elaborations are becoming most specious and fallacious.
Best of all, if you come across someone nasty :- Well we are a derisive little laddie. Make sure your ready to duck out the jaw breaker, as he or she swings it.

Now seriously, I have been thinking, watch out everyone, perhaps there is something in your concerns over confidentiality. For example, my police friend, has often said, once they get even the tiniest lead, the case is solved. So realistically, it is with identity theft.
IS THERE ANY ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE TO THIS – I'd be interested in your advice, facts only please.
Regards Bill3.

PS. Tribology to you all !!!!!!!!!!!!
Offline@ Bill3: For some reason you have chosen to go down the offensive route and be insulting. Is there some reason for you to attempt to insult my intelligence? You must be a very small man, and I do not mean in stature. This is a friendly place and this sort of behaviour is not welcome. I am reporting your post and hope that you either undergo a serious revision of behaviour and attitude before you come in here again, or that you bugger off completely.
OfflinePhoenix_Rising: Just want to let you (and Bill3) know that I also reported his openly insulting posts earlier today when I first saw his latest post. A line has been crossed and there is no going back now.
Insulting and degrading others has never been acceptable on this site and is not acceptable now. I believe that it's time for anyone that wants to act like a troll to go away and find another forum where acting like a jerk is acceptable.
Be gone troll! You will not be missed!
