OfflineHey,
I recently made a couple of changes how advertisements are displayed for individual posts:

The changes will only affect individual article blog posts, and nothing else on dotTech (ignore the fact that the first screenshot is of a non-blog post – I forgot to take a screenshot before making the changes and I took a screenshot of a non-blog post for demostration purposes only).
I would appreciate it if I could get some feedback on the changes. Now I realize no one likes ads, so most people will probably want to say "get rid of them altogther". However, ads are a necessary evil that provide funding to keep dotTech going so I can't remove them. I, however, hate it when websites are plastered with ads and don't want to make dotTech like that.
So, can I get some feedback on these new ad changes – did I overdo it with the new changes, are they OK, did you like it before better or after better, etc. In particular, I would like feedback on the new links ad that was added above posts since previously i did not have that kind of ad.
Thanks for every and all feedback.

Hey Ashraf!!
If I understand correctly (I know,….a rare event!!
)…
& by looking at the screenshots,…this ad change is only on the reviews & articles, & not on our forum posts.
If that's correct, then 1 of the positives IMHO, is the forum posts column would extend up-wards by rearranging the ads, giving it more emphasis & easier to see more of it with less scrolling.
As far as "ads are a necessary evil that provide funding to keep dotTech going so I can't remove them. I, however, hate it when websites are plastered with ads and don't want to make dotTech like that."
I would not include "evil" after necessary, because to run this site, the ads contribute a vital part of the time, effort, & help you provide, along with defraying the costs of not just the site maintenance, but to address the technical issues that inevitably arise, & even for ongoing improvements.
This is one of the only sites I turn Adblocker off, & have even clicked on some ads & links to look into. The privilege of being able to come here & learn, as well as to give & receive feedback, helpful hints, ….the entertainment & even fun
that we enjoy from here, ways offsets any minor inconvenience of having to look at a couple of ads.
Thanks for developing & maintaining a place to come to on a daily basis, a place that feels in part……….like one to call………"home."
A sincere & warm regards!

OfflineI would say that I like the ads in the sidebar better than under the title of the article. However, as far as making me look at the ads, under the title is probably better although once I get used to seeing them there I probably will cease to notice them much. Another place you could try putting ads would be between the article and the comments. Moving the placement around fairly frequently is probably the best way to get them noticed.
OfflineYeah, I figured most would rather have them in the sidebar. However, I recently turned off all image ads, and only allow text ads now, and I thought placing them right under the title would bring better exposure, as Karen said.
Lets see how this goes; if it backfires I can always revert it back to as it was.
