OfflineIt seems that as soon as a forum post has passed out of the spotlight of the "recent forum posts" list, they rarely get any more attention.
Is there a way to remedy that? Perhaps make the list 1.5 – 2 times longer so that conversations stay alive longer? Does anyone else have an idea?
Ashraf, I think it would be great to have at least a longer list, or maybe a specific page for the latest 20 or so.
Just some ideas. Let me know what you think.
OfflineI've noticed it too, and am guilty of just watching the list for which threads I watch. When I come to the site and see the whole list has changed, I wonder what else I missed, but don't usually check any further. I'm lazy I guess.
It would be great to have the last 20 posts listed, but am affraid that the list would be way to long, extending the page down further than anybody would like.
@Ashraf: Is there a way with wordpress.org for you to set up something like a seperate "page" where a longer list of recent posts could be, so it wouldn't mess up the look of your current pages?
The "archives" page I set up on my wordpress.com blog does that, kinda. I don't use .org yet so don't know what's possible using that yet.
Just a thought…
OfflineThe list should definitely be longer, and I don't think it would affect the pages much because most pages on the main site and forums are already long enough to accommodate the extra long list. Otherwise, if at all possible, an auto-scrolling list would look great and could keep more topics alive in the same space.
OfflineI guess an auto-scroll would be better than nothing, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
After reading Sandeep's post, I looked at the Recent Post area. It's 10 posts long instead of the 5 that the Recent Forum area shows.
I wonder if 10 posts would be a long enough list. It'd be shorter than a 20 post list, so wouldn't effect the length of the page as much. I think Sandeep's idea would be worth a try, it's a good one.
I also realize that the lenght of the page thing I mention is a personal choice thing. To me it looks sloppy to have the right sidebar longer than the stuff in the main area of the page. To my way of thinking, the sidebar has to be shorter than the main area on the average length page of the blog. But again, that's just a personal choice thing that I follow and in no way means that it's right for everyone. I wouldn't dream of trying to tell anybody else how their blog/site should look! I'm just offering my opinion, like everybody else.
Offline@Everyone: I have made it so the last 20 most recently posted on topics are shown at the forum homepage (http://dottech.org/forums) at the bottom. I will see if I can get a seperate page for it later, but for now this will do.
P.S. I can make it so this list of 20 appear at the top of the forum, but figured the bottom was a better place.
@Admins: You won't be able to see the new 20 posts list because admins can already easily see the most recently posted on forums via the bar at the top.

To me, the bar on the right, or whatever ends up happening, should say the time or date of the post. A few times i've gone to see the new post in a topic, only to realise there wasn't one.
I will look into that. I believe when I was testing out that widget, I made it so the times would appear but then it looked too "messy" so I removed it.
