A question I've been asked is how to add animations to forum signatures. It's actually not that hard, all you need is an account- needed for posting on the forums- and an animated GIF (or APNG, if you want to get technical). Finding the right animation is key: it should be smaller than 150 pixels wide– about the size of this:
Finding one isn't that hard; just go to Google and search for one. Here's one I found in a couple of seconds:
Once you have found one, copy the URL of it from the browser's address bar. Then go to dotTech's forums at Dottech.org/forums. From there, log in and look for these buttons (they only appear when you're logged in):
Click the text saying Profile. You should find a screen similar to this:
Click the button saying Set Up Your Signature to find yourself on a screen showing what's in your signature.
To add the animation, paste the URL of the GIF (or APNG) into the "Signature Image Location (url)" box. To add text, type the text in the box above it.
Click update profile, and violá, you're done! The signature will show up on any and all forum posts you make- new or old.
The text will show up to the right of the image.

I found I could add a GIF as my avatar too.
I was gonna use it in my signature line, but like it better as an avatar.

Meeza thought it humorous to parody Inspector Clousau.
Previously, I believe, Wheezer had an animated avatar showing a monkey puffing on a cigarette (no doubt withdrawn now due to complaints from animal rights activists – and rightly so). That is what I could not see – and still do not see the new(?) GIF alluded to by Wheezer.
Perhaps my humour was too subtle on this occaision – better luck next time eh?

Well in the forums he's moved to- at my site, linked in my signature- the avatars don't really work that well animated, but the monkey still smokes.
