Select the user that you log in with. There should be a tab that tells you what permissions the user has. If you have one called "Administrator" then you are one. If not, then you aren't one.

If you're not an Administrator, then you probably need another Administrator to make you one because you won't have the privileges to change the permissions.

Basically when one boots their system be sure to login (logon?) with an account that has administrative privileges.

My system is set to login (logon) automatically with my admin account.

Again, hope I explained this properly. Due to my age, sometimes I don't understand my own explanations. Something for younger folk to look forward to.Smile

In XP Pro there is a tab also for 'Security' in which one can change permissions to allow full control or deny access to the folder/file. In XP Home this 'Security' tab is not available unless one boots into safe mode.

If one tries to open a folder/file and gets an 'Access Denied' message, one can go to the items properties, select the 'Security' tab and by changing 'Permissions' can take control of the folder/file to be able to open it. By the same token one can deny access to a folder/file to certain individuals by setting 'Permissions' to reflect such.

In order to access the 'Security' tab in 'Properties' in XP Home, one has to boot into safe mode. This tweak allows users of XP Home to access the 'Security Tab' without having to boot into safe mode.

Kindly excuse my ignorance. What exactly is security tab? I clicked your tab & tried to figure out for myself but could not understand.I also do not understand "access permissions". Often I've seen it being said "login as an administrator" etc etc but I've never really understood what it meansCry

I am running XP Home and found a way to show the security tab without having to boot into safe mode. I applied this tweak over 3 years ago and works flawlessly on my system. Have had no problems and sure is nice to access permissions just like XP Pro.
