OfflineAshraf has NOT gone AWOL – as pointed out earlier, Ashraf does not need permission for taking any leave.
It is more a case of being M.I.A. (Missing In Action), on this occaision, to perform one of his faiths religieous duties by all accounts.
What is unusual however, is that he did not give us advance notice of being absent as on the previous absence. This is the mystery.
Also, I believe it is mid-term exam time in U.S.A. and thus his attentions might be focused elsewhere.
Whatever the reasons, I am sure all of us dotTechies wish him well and a speedy return to active participation
- if nothing more than to salve our frazzled nerves.

I had no intention of causing any problems or hurting anyone's feelings on this board. I'm sorry I offended your friend or anyone else who read my post. I certainly think the world of ASHRAF.
Good day
Ever heard someone say: “Let me rephrase that”? It seems that I need to do a better job in making a point about perception (how we see ourselves & others, & how others see themselves & us). So I just wanted to say that I’m certain that there was “no intention of causing any problems or hurting anyone's feelings.” If that was not clear enough in my previous post, then please let me restate that this is only about perceptions in general, & not about anyone in particular. I can only speak for my friend & I, but we know that no offense was meant, so no offense could possibly be taken.
The purpose is only to bring about an increase in awareness that some people are very sensitive & even protective of their religious & other beliefs, & do not want to feel that there is this one side (the ‘we’ expressed as “you & me”), & ‘they’ are then seen as ‘different from us,’ especially when their views are not of the majority (in America, that would include those who identify with Judaism, Islam, Hindu, etc, or even those with spiritual faith, but of no particular religious affiliation). The issue is that it can become problematic in other cases where ‘different’ is seen as ‘less than,’ ‘inferior,’ not as good (i.e., 2nd or lower class), etc.
Again, this is merely to stress that we all (including myself) should try to be more empathetic towards, & conscious of, how others in the ( cultural or religious) minority may have fragile feelings, & wish to be seen as more a ‘part of’ than ‘apart from,’ as more alike, than ‘different from us,’ the dominant culture or religion.
United in spirit

Click on the Profile link at the top of the forums (right next to the logout, on the same line as your username and last logged in time). There is a "Setup Your Signature" tab. You can add either just text or a url that points to a picture or both.

@AlanR: I believe I earlier said he was MIA!
And remember when he was gone in January?
MIA – looks like we are on the same wave length (Broadband?)
January? Seems to be a hang-over blurrr..
Whatever – think you know what I meant.

Do you have a site? Maybe an insperational quote? Maybe a distinguishing banner (my logo, Karen's file transfer) like this?
Hey Locutus:
I finally figured out how to put text in the signature box, but didn’t see what the limit in number of characters is. However, I was not able to paste a picture like the one you have about being on-line for 1 year……
Any hints?
Thanks

Offline@Yourpal: You need to know the URL… for instance the URL of that image is http://media.techeblog.com/images/funnyerror_1.jpg. You add that to the Image field.
