Can someone please direct me to the Mu key on my keyboard?

mu

No?  How about the Arrow key?

Am I missing something?  Are those just there to confuse bots, or are we actually supposed to type them?

The arrow I have no idea.  The Mu probably just wants you to type a u.

Can anyone show me the incomprehensible mess button?

Maybe I should have tried that…

I agree with you. Many of them are becoming unreadable.

You're lucky that has a refresh button built right in. Some captchas I've come across are just as unreadable, without the option to refresh it – except refreshing the whole dang page.

Whoa! Did my icon just get super-sized or what?

Here's a fun little thing about ReCaptcha.  You know that they help Google scan books, right?  But do you know how?  They actually only know what one of those words is–say, maracull, rather than the arrow.  So if you don't know how to type one of them in, just do an approximation–like –>.

Some of those are just jumbled messes though.

Oh, the site that was :(

Huh. I always kinda wondered what the “read books” meant. Guess now I know.

I did notice how sometimes its not always accurate.
