@Karen: Look down at the Currently Online list at the bottom of the page. You'll see Locutus isn't there right now, or a lot of times. Yet he stays logged in too.

@Wheezer – true, but I also usually have the tab open in FF, even if I'm not currently on that tab. I wonder if that makes a difference?

Actually I come on in bursts. I stay on for half an hour and leave for a while. Like now, I have to leave.

@Karen: I just did what was supposed to be a quick test, but actually took a long, long time.
I fired up one of my old laptops (which loads pages at such a fast rate that I swear I could have driven to town and had lunch, then drove back home in the time it takes) and went to dotTech forums to look to see who was online.
Then on my new computer I logged into the forums, and then changed to a different tab that had another site open on it.
When I refreshed the old computer page it said I was logged in on dotTech. So evidentally switching to a different tab while logged in doesn't make it look like you've signed out.
