Since we've talked about cool pics of the northern lights and from Hubble, I thought I'd share something I saw tonight that was almost as awesome.

I flew out to Washington DC today and landed at Reagan Airport. We were supposed to arrive at 6:30pm, but because of a delay on the first flight to the hub in Minneapolis, my plane finally landed in DC at 11:45pm. Argh… Made for a long day…

Our landing flight path took us east to west just south of the National Mall with that huge long "reflecting pool." Once over the Potomac river we hung a sharp left and I got a great view of the Pentagon.

As cool as seeing those sites all lit up, was seeing the lights of the city as we dropped out of the clouds and desended toward the airport. I've been told it's been called "The Crystal City" and I can easily understand why.

I tried taking a couple pictures out the window, but they turned out horrible. I shot some video too, but that's shakey as all heck. When I get home I'll run it thru PowerDirector a couple times and see if I can make it viewable. If it turns out ok, I'll post some of it here.

It was so cool to see the city lit up like that, that it made all the delays of the day seem to be a good thing. No way it would have looked that beautiful in the daylight.

Oh my gosh! You should see how many people vist the sights on the National Mall on a warm Sunday afternoon. Unreal.

Individuals, families, tour groups, bikers, roller-bladers, skateboarders, and even some obvious homeless folks. There were people everywhere!

I suppose that's a good thing, but I don't like big crowds, so didn't enjoy that part of my visit very much.

[self-disclosure: I have been homeless....Frown.... & currently volunteer & work to help....Smile..so, ........only a joke on the wording, ........not on the plight......in fact, a good time to mention that...... probably any local shelter could use an hour or 2 a week, or even a month, of help!!]

Good thing you weren't visiting during the Cherry Blossom Festival or July 4th then. The fireworks crowds are unbelievable.

Karen: Sounds like next weekend when all the Harley riders are in town is a pretty wild time too.

You should have seen my brother's face light up when we heard about it. I know where he wants to be on his Harley next weekend. I still want to get a Harley, so being here on one next weekend isn't possible. Cry    WinkLaugh

I'm back home again and as promised, I ran the video thru PowerDirector and got rid of some of the shake.

When I look at it, the thing that sticks out to me is that it just isn't as good as seeing it in person. But that's to be expected. So if you watch the video keep in mind that it's about 6000% better in person.

@Wheezer – just so you know why I edited your post. It was a little too wide and making the post above it run off the page so they weren't readable. I changed the video width from 425 to 400 and that seemed to fix it.

I liked the video, BTW. I assume the first segment was the edited version and the second segment was unedited?

Thanks for fixing the size thing Karen.  Smile

The second time the video runs it's the same as the first, without the music. Why the second time is there I have no idea except that I must have a setting wrong or something in the youtube account I set up for my Wheezer videos. They always show the video twice, with no audio the second time thru. When I upload the video, I only upload it once, youtube adds the second playback by it's self. Confused

In the youtube account I have for my other videos, there's just the one time thru, like it should be.
