Yeah, sorry about that. The article is a bit old and needs to be updated to reflect recent changes in software.

If you have Bit Defender 2011, WinPatrol, ThreatFire, SpywareGuard, ZoneAlarm, you are well protected. You don't need any extra scanners.

It's one of my favorite articles. An update would be greatly welcomed when you find the time. Thanks again!

Thanks. I always considered Ad-Aware Tier 2 and Ad-Aware AE Edition is listed as Tier 2 here: http://dottech.org/featured/3174 so I was a little confused. (Can't wait until that article is updated again.) I just want a anti-malware guard to give me additional protection. I tried Iobit's new malware scanner and it found 4 things Bit Defender didn't.

I use Bit Defender 2011, WinPatrol, ThreatFire, SpywareGuard, ZoneAlarm (which I like because it asks me permission for everything that tries to connect to the net.) I've tried KeyScrambler but it scrambled my typing.

I read that Panda Antivirus Cloud works with AVG and tried it without problems but now that I have Bit Defender I will look for a different Malware Guard - probably one listed by jumbi or in Ashraf's article: http://dottech.org/featured/3174

Thanks again!

Ad-Aware Pro isn't tier two. It is tier one, which is why you see it slowing down your computer.

I haven't yet really given Panda cloud some thought. May look into it later.

only 1 AV should be installed in a system.

meaning the software which are reported from windows as an installed AV.

above 1, is just experiments and you must have time dealing with various problems or google your desired combinations and find out reported problems. And even if you manage to have them (which can "seem" ok at many combinations initially), you will never know what is wrong when a bad behaviour appears anytime in the future.

Unless you disable real time guards as you did and keep a 2nd or 3rd AV only for manual scanning.

(of course Ad-Aware Pro conflicts with Bit Defender and with a lot more).

All above notes, apply for Panda too (which is not such a good AV anyway).

Super antispyware and malwarebytes are supplements, so their real-time shields should not conflict (and they generally don't). Both are free for manual scans and paid for real time guarding.

There are however other type of security software except antispyware that you could/should add to your defence (eg a good firewall, spyshelter-Snoopfree-Zemana antilogger, keyscrambler, winpatrol etc).

I have Bit Defender 2011 and got the recent 1 yr of Ad-Aware Pro (which boasts of it's new AV definitions) My Firefox slowed to a crawl. I ended up disabling Ad-Aware at start-up and it seemed to fix the problem. I have 6GBs of RAM so that wasn't the problem.

Could it be Firefox? I was really excited to get Ad-Aware Pro because I wanted an awesome Teir Two protection. The free version of SuperAntiSpyware never really did anything except find tracking cookies and that was only when I ran it. Malwarebytes costs money.

I was hoping this was the real-time malware protection I was looking for. Does anyone know if they conflict?

________________________________________________________________________

Also, there are a few Panda Antivirus Cloud Pro giveaways going around. I read that that is one of the few AVs that don't conflct with other AVs because of the cloud technology. Is that true?

Thanks!!
