OfflineJust a reminder for those that, like me, don't always make it the "Home" page of dotTech.org, to go there and read the article Help dotTech win “Best Geek Blog” of 2009 at Blogger’s Choice Awards
I see we're only up to 128 votes as I write this, that's 474 votes behind the leader! We made a huge jump in votes the day that Ashraf posted the article, but it wasn't big enough. We've only got until the end of December to get this accomplished, so if you haven't voted yet, please do!
I'm concered that now that the article doesn't show up in the list of articles on the right side of the page, people won't notice the article and won't go vote. So I'm hoping this thread "might" help, because it'll show up on the right.
There were 421 replies to Ashraf's article offering the 20 free licenses for Outpost Security Suite Pro in only a few days. Getting the votes we need by the end of the month should be easy!
Come on folks, vote!
Please?
OfflineAgreed Wheezer. I'm starting to get a bit p***ed off at the hundreds of people who are happy to jump on the bandwagon when Ashraf gives something away, but won't support him when it comes to getting recognition for his hard work. Perhaps they should look at it this way: the more Ashraf and dotTech get such recognition, the more freebies will come their way.
Come on folks. Spend a few minutes of your time to cast a vote!
OfflineBump…
Help keep this in the "Recent Forum Posts." If you see it getting low on the list, give it a "bump."

Offline@ jabtano:
It sounds like you're trying to say that we should give up trying to win this for Ashraf.
I do give you full credit and my thank you for voting from all of your email addresses.
Please, let me respectfully remind you, and everyone else, that when Ashraf took his own personal time to arange the give away of 20 lifetime licenses for Outpost Security Suite Pro, it only took a couple days to get over 400 replies.
We can easily pass up the current leader in this contest. If people will give back a small portion of the time that Ashraf gives every day, by taking the 5 minutes to vote. Nobody is asking anyone to give up hours and hours for this. Only 5 minutes.
It shows increadible disrespect to not cast a vote. Not a very good way to say thank you to someone who has gone out of his way to help people get free programs.
Again, to jabtano: Thank you for voting! You are definately one of the "good guys" on dotTech.
Have a good weekend everybody!
Offline@Jabatno
From the looks of it the website in first place either had all his/her friends vote for him/her or created multiple accounts and voted for himself/herself because all his/her voters voted just for his/her website in all the categories submitted. We can easily pass him/her!
Also, thank you for voting!
@Wheezer
I don't think Jabatno was trying to say we should give up. I believe Jabatno was trying to say the website in first place does not compare to dotTech in terms of content so dotTech rightfully deserves first place
.
Thank you for your continous support and effort. To be honest, I really should have continued this campaign throughout the whole year – we could have easily been in first if I did. There aren't much days left in December so ya. ![]()
OfflineOh No I wasn't in anyway saying give up. er no I don't give up even when beaten down and lying on the ground, my middle finger will stick up.
What I was trying to say is, the first place holder doesn't hold a candle to dottech.if you really look at it and what content is on there and hold dottech next to it. Well you will see what I mean.

Ashraf, you could still be Numero Uno this year if all the slackos who avail themselves of your offerings when it suits them actually voted. The number of postings on your giveaways is proof of that. If only they would stand up and be counted. What is wrong with some people???? And on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have good folk like these posters who have in some instances voted multiple times – which wouldn't need to happen if the rest took a few minutes of their time to actually give something back. Speaks volumes about the world we live in, if you ask me.

See what happens when I let myself get out of bed and head straight for the computer? My brain isn't working. I should have gotten a cup of coffee first!
When I re-read your post now, I can see clearly what you were talking about.
Please accept my apoligies for insinuating that you'd "thrown in the towel." You obviously weren't saying that.
Darn, I hate it when I prove to myself that I'm human too…

@everybody else that's posted here
Thanks for the help keeping this in the Recent Forum Posts list on the right. I appreciate the help. I was start'n to wonder if it was worth the effort and that nobody cares. But you're proving to me anyway that there are some of us that will step up and do what we can.
I feel bad that I didn't try to help with this starting back when Ashraf first posted about the contest. We SO could have kicked butt on that other site without the need for the rush that we have now. Heck, I could have come up with enough email accounts to win it for dotTech if I'd started right away!

OfflineWhen I got up this morning I decided I'd take a closer look at the now 4 sites that have more votes than dotTech. Interesting stuff. By "closer look", I mean actually go to the sites and see what, in my opinion, they're all about. In stead of just reading the site discription that the nominator posted.
In the number one spot, is a worthwile competetor. With what seems to be a site that tries to help with computer related issues people may come up against. I can see why this site was nominated in the "Geek" category.
In second is a site who's homepage, like dotTech.org has snippets of recent articles. Here's some of those article titles:
"It's Christmas on Facebook"
"Charlize Theron on the Finals draw of 2010 World Cup in South Africa"
"Boyfriend send a tweet at the altar, before kissing the bride"
In third I found the following tech/geek related articles:
"Self Motivation Techniques That Work"
"What you should do during School Holidays"
"Dealing with your kids' Emotions"
"Are you in tune with your child?"
OfflineLocutus said:Maybe I should pin this in the forums- it wouldn't help keep it in the right sidebar, but it would keep it at the top of the section. (Kind of like the Wave thread is pinned to the top of the Freebies section)
Good idea. My hips are getting sore from all the bumping!
