@ Refpeuk:

That's a good question, and very relevent since ashraf has said that a lot of dotTech readers are from countries other than the US.

I really can't answer your question for sure tho. I don't remember seeing anything specific about it. My guess, let me stress that, my guess, is that it would work in any country there are Best Buy stores in. But that's a guess. I'm sure they also get a lot of people that like you live in neighboring countries and travel to buy things at their stores. Where I live we're about 50 miles south of the Canadian border and have Canadians shopping in town all the time. To me it would make sense for them to allow you to use this service, it'd be good customer service, which would then keep you as a returning customer.

But let me add that a couple hours after I started this thread, I ended up in the ER at our local hospital with what looked like a heart attack. It turned out to be something else, but just as serious. I got released a few hours ago and am on a bunch of drugs that are messing with me (pain killers amoung others) and making it hard to think straight. I hope to feel better after some sleep, because there hasn't been much of that since it happened.

My best advise would be to go to the site via the link, read any details they offer and then direct your question to Best Buy if you don't find an answer. Sorry I can't help more with this.

Maybe you could add a reply if you find out so others with the same question can get the answer easily too?

Have a great day!

PS: If this post in any way offends you, or anyone else, I''m sorry. It wasn't meant to. My brain is all wacked out right now because of the drugs from the hospital and it's hard to concentrate on anything. I'm just trying to give an honest answer with the best info I can, as quickly as I can.

And amnesia brought up a good point, you could probably get more for your items using ebay.

This is just another option that is out there.

Click that link and find out. They ask a bunch of questions about it and then give you an offer.

I hope it's ok to post this here. The info is for public consumtion, anybody in the US can do it. Mods or Ashraf, if this post dissapears, I'll understand.

I got an email today from Best Buy. They will now buy your old stuff, or provide you the opportunity to recycle it if in their eyes it has no value.

They will give you either an in-store gift certificate or send you a check for the amount that they decide to pay for it. Be aware tho, if you choose to receive a check, they do pay you less for the item.

There are two ways to go about selling something to them. One is in-store, for which you must have a valid Best Buy receipt for the item. The second way is done online (you ship them the item) and you don't have to have a receipt or even have bought the item at a Best Buy store.

There are of course a limited amout of items they will buy. Here's a list of what they will buy:

In-Store:

Apple iPods

Apple Laptops

Mobile Phones

PC Laptops

The online option accepts many more items:

Apple Desktops

Apple iPods

Apple Laptops

Camcorders

Car Audio Receivers

Flat-Screen Computer Monitors

Game Systems

GPS Receivers

HD DVD Players

Home Audio Receivers

Mobile Phones

Multimedia Projectors

PC Desktops

PC Laptops

PDAs & Handheld Computers

Servers

Digital Cameras

As an example of how much they pay for items, I tried two items that I have. First was my laptop, a Compaq Presario V-2000. With the installed memory and ram that it has, they said it had no value to them and said that I can send it in for recycling if I want.

So I tried my GPS, a Garmin Nuvi 350. This they would buy. They offered $102 if I take a gift card or $66 if I want a check.

I have in the past thought about selling it at a local pawn shop when I needed money quick. The most they would ever offer was $40 (I worked there too, so I was getting the best price they'd ever pay). Either of the options Best Buy offered would be a better way to go, if I actually wanted to sell it, which I don't.

To see how the program works go to:
