no, i'm quite hapy with the default os. (listening to the shocked gasps of the crowd) Exactly what advantage do I get from jailbreaking?
(that was your opportunity for some selfpromotion.)

okay, okay! that's a lot of stuff :P but isn't there the chance you'll brick it, and apple won't replace it? and i thought the ipod touch 3rd gen was a tethered jailbreak?

Chance to brick it: about 2.5%. Fix: force into DFU mode and restore with iTunes. Also, if you restore, Apple will never know. And Spirit is untethered for all devices with OS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and 3.2.
2.5? that's reasonable. and what is DFU for the un-initiated? :p
I'll give it a go tonight when I get home, and i'll let you know what happens.
Also, do you know if it is possible to download files on the ipod using it's browser? i have enever tried -.- (and i don't have wireless internet)

You can download Spirit at http://spiritjb.com/
ah, a recovery mode, great! :)
Haha, the old catchphrase: there's an app for that. would you happen to know what app it is?
And while we are on the subject of apps, what apps do you reccomend, and will itunes recognise them, or do I need to sync with a seperate program.
Downloaded spirit, i'm doing it tonight. i really hope it works!

But for apps I recommend, WinterBoard is a must, and so it ProSwitcher (or Backgrounder) and SBSettings. You should also get Categories. And if you've got a few bucks to spare, I'd recommend PogoPlank, FirewalliP, qTweeter, and iFile.

when you say a few bucks spare, i'm guessing you don't mean itunes credit :(
well, tonight will be interesting! and i guess we'd better stop the tangential hi-jack of this thread. Sorry Ebony!
Yeah, now might be a good time to stop hijacking this thread

Arrg! it doesn't work! I jail broke it, and it's all good. but I have no wi-fi, so i got cyder, which downloads the apps, but refuses to move them to my ipod. help!
If it is grayed out, I'm afraid I can not help much, but if it just won't connect, try holding the home and power buttons together until the devices turns off, and then boot it up again. If that doesn't work, tap the arrow next to your wifi network in settings, and tap forget this network, and then hold the home and power buttons together until is shuts down, and boot it up again. If that doesn't work, try resetting your router. And if that doesn't work, you should go to some forums that specialize in iPod Touch problems.

oh no, i mean that i don't have wireless internet at home. at all. just a wired one. :/
I thought I had screwed up your device.
What OS do you have? There should be a way to share your wired Internet wirelessly. If you have Windows 7, you can try Connectify, which you can download at http://connectify.me/
OfflineTHANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!
Back in Japan, we forgot the pass for the internet, so I couldn't use my awesome Asus gaming laptop that almost perfect except the Fn key and Ctrl key are reversed.
I emailed Asus once and they were so stupid that they said to use a specific program that can re-map keys on your keyboard. Well sound's great, but not really, because the program doesn't come with a Fn key re-mapper!
Well I guess I have to cope with the new layout for my COD4 game. :(
But the good news is that my home computer back in Japan can be the new internet hotspot for my laptops! Yay!
