OfflineFirst of all, I apologize for the mile long post. Hopefully it'll be worth it tho. Future posts on this subject will be shorter.
After spending way too much time last night and today trying to find a way to get plastic ID cards made for those who want them, I came to a decision. It would be a lot of jumping thru hoops and cost more than most of us would be willing to pay.
But still, they are kinda/sorta cool. There must be a better way to do this…
Well, I came up with an option that I think is more affordable, but that has a time limit on it. So this option will only be available for another 13 days (till 5/21/10), because I'm using a trial version of the software, which I got from the company who makes it, and that's when it expires. That should be more than enough time tho.
Anyway, I went to work this evening and got a few made. If you see yours below, do what you want with it. Copy and save it, print it, mail it to your mother, whatever. I don't care.
If you don't see yours here and you want one, keep an eye on this thread. I'll write a post with what I need from you to make it. The people I did tonight have their info easily available, so that's why I chose them tonight.
Ebony and Adrian: I didn't do one for you because you don't have a custom avatar yet. I know Ebony has talked about getting a new one so I want to wait until she's picked one so the card will be current for a longer time. Adrian, I'm not sure if you're going to get a new avatar or not, but didn't want to make one for you until I know for sure.
Oh, one last thing. I consider my time to be very valuable, so if I make you a card I want something in return. I'm thinking one free pass when I say something stupid that ticks you off would be a good trade. Ok?
And now, here's round 1:

As you can see, I made a couple changes from the plastic one I made for myself, but I think these look better. If anybody has a better, but large version of the circle logo I'd love to get a copy so I could change it out on the IDs. Also, if somebody could tell me what the fonts are for the dotTech [.org] banner I could use that and get rid of the banner so you wouldn't see the lighter color blue box under it.
And,,, if you have a larger version of your avatar that looks better than what I used, if you get it to me I'll replace the bad looking one and re-post your ID.
Ok, that's enough. I'm gonna get something to eat…
Count yourself two more free passes…
I got my avatar here…

Your program might import it with a black background, however.
OfflineCool, thanks Locutus.
I'll switch out the dT logo and anything else I can, like Locutus's avatar, and then repost them tomorrow.
I'm also hoping maybe Ashraf will chime in and tell me what font he used for the banner text. If he does, I'll make that change too.
I'm glad you guys like them. I need those free passes!
OfflineAshraf: I'm shocked!
Are you able to pull up the code somewhere like Locutus was doing in that other thread and find it that way?

Unfortuantely, it's a rasterized image, not text. (It's a picture of text.) So unless he has the PSD (Photoshop) files, nope…
plus, all I did was view the page source and click on a stylesheet link.

@Adrian: No offence, but that is one ugly avatar
.
Yeah. Not to mention it is visually confused with, and possibly some infringement through hijacking and defacing, the "Brand" logo.
Strongly recommend a rethink on this and change to something more suitable. Possibly along the lines of Bard & Quille.
