OfflineIt's just the natural way of a lot of sites. These guys start one, pour their heart and souls into them for a couple years and then burn out hits. What could anybody expect? Look at how much time Ashraf put into this site. Then imagine how long you could keep up the pace and quality that he did. Anybody would get burn out doing that much work alone. Some people come back from burn out, but not very many. Ashraf has already tried twice since just last summer to make a comeback, both times failed. The last time he did everything he could, including asking for help with articles. Lots of people stepped up and said they'd write articles, some even saying they'd write as many as 4 or 5 per week. But where are all these articles that people claimed they write? Talk is cheap. People have proven that yet again.
I see that Ashraf signed in last on February 7, 2011. So he still cares enough to stop in from time to time, but my bet would be that he's had enough of writing all those long detailed articles for nothing. He may get told that people appreciate what he's written a million times, but at some point that just isn't enough anymore. For someone that's doing all this work for free and because he enjoys it, at some point it's bound to become a job, and it's a bad paying job at that. Who among us can truthfully say that we would do that much work for almost no pay? I'd bet not too many. I sure wouldn't.
So if Ashraf makes another comeback and starts writing articles again, great! Lots of us will benefit from it. But if he doesn't and this site transforms into nothing more than a forum for people to use, I won't be surprised. Use it and the knowledge of the other users as much as you care too. You may also want to wish that more people would have donated to the site so that Ashraf would have made enough money from it to keep up with his work.
(Hope you're enjoying life a bit more now Ashraf!)
i have an idea.. instead of us being down and sad that ashraf is gone and we cant read locutus' articles cuz of ashraf's absence (right?) why dont we all do our little parts and make dot-tech forums a place where we write our own articles about products we have tried and liked until ashraf gets back… we cant send emails, but people who love dottech will discover it!!
just a suggestion :p
quite a handy use of the "subscribe" feature?!?!
OfflineBusy time of the year. Barely have time to even look in much of late. But I like prema23's suggestion – so why don't those folks who do have time on their hands give us their tips? Speaking for myself, I know I'd love to read them.
OfflineSorry my post #7 was not meant to be facetious. Like everybody else I miss the buzz that Ashraf generates with his reviews and posts. With the amount he has produced in the 3 months that I have been a member, he deserves a break – let's hope it is only a break.
@Locutus (#10), I am concerned that you are waiting for Ashraf. As one of the small group of worthy Administrators, can you not publish them? God forbid, but if Asraf got into a dispute with a big truck, this splendid site would moulder away.
@dman (#8) and @prema23 (#11), I totally agree, we all must have a tip, experience or a favorite application tha we could write up. let's all try and make time.

dotTech is back!
also people who want to write tips and reviews… check dotTech before hand.. use the lovely search box provided.
i was about to start my first review on Soluto and i did not check dotTech. i installed, restarted, and took many many screenshots of my computer. I even uploaded these pics to google photos --then i opened up word and started to write it out. i luckily only wrote an introduction before i went to dottech to see if anyone posted something about it. sure enough ashraf did a long review (LOL!)..
it was my bad luck, but it is still a good experience for everyone to keep in mind.
check dotTech before reviewing a product :)

OfflineWelcome back dotTech! Well done Locutus, greaty reviews!
Comments about the search box are spot on. So if the search box doesn't show your favorites, get writing and post!
Anyway three more cheers for dotTech from me. The best site, members and administrators of all that I've tried.
