OfflineI wasn't sure where to post this query because it's both hardware and software related.
Basically, my computer has suddenly lost an essential component.
The component is called 'Ashraf'.
One day it was there, fully functioning and dependable as ever. Next it was gone.
No symptoms. No warning. Nuffink.
And when I've clicked on here for an Ashraf Update, there isn't one.
This is most worrying. I do hope Ashraf will be operational again soon and that whatever has caused this sudden absence is not of a serious nature.
Fingers crossed!
OfflineYeah, I was just about to make a thread asking the same thing.
We all can agree Ashraf needs a break once in a while and we can't begrudge him with it, but it still feels like I'm missing a daily tradition
(of checking this site and reading the new posts)
Let's hope he's back soon!
OfflineI live in the country a few miles outside a "college town."
I can tell you all that on last friday, 12/18, the town emptied out! As was suggested earlier, finals ended and all the college kids went home (or where ever) for Christmas and New Year's celebrations.
My bet is that that's what's going on with Ashraf. He's probably at home or off with friends somewhere where the idea of sitting on his computer working on a review is the last thing he wants to do.
I see no reason to think anything else is going on, and hope he's having a great time, where ever he is.
Offline@ Wheezer: Well, that may be so, but I really doubt it … Ashraf always lets people know when he's going away for an extended period, at which time he hands over the reins to Locutus and his other administrators. Secondly, he doesn't celebrate Xmas. Thirdly, he doesn't drink, so you can rule out the ditching everything to go partying. And while he may well have taken a break, it just isn't true to form that he would do it without at least notifying his second-in-commands. Something's really amiss. And I hope it's nothing serious.
Offline@Ozzie: I'm not trying to argue with you, I simply stated my opinion. Which is that lots of people go off to do different things this time of year, for many, many different reasons.
I didn't say he was celebrating Christmas, and I didn't say he was off somewhere drinking. Please, read what I write, not what you read into what I write.
All I said is that I wouldn't be surprised if he's off with friends or family having a good time. Which could be doing anything he considers a good time.
If you choose to spend your time worrying that something bad has happened, well, have fun with that.
I choose not to worry about something I have no control over without good reason. And so far, nobody has provided a reason that is sound enough for me to waste time worrying that could have been spent on doing something else.
Have a great day!
Offline@ Wheezer: I guess it's human nature to hope for the best whilst being nagged by anxieties about the less-than-best.
I don't think anyone in the dot.tech community is a drama queen, seeking out mole hills to magnify into mountains.
But concern is legitimate when a character (as it were) steps out of character.
And Ashraf's 5-day silence is, well, uncharacteristic -- hence the number of comments here.
