OfflineHey All!
Caution:
There are new members who look like spammers/malware [their bios show the same old converter spam we've been dealing with lately].
Many of you (other than Ashraf, the admins, & Adrian) will not know of them because as soon as they are detected--usually after they have made the spam/malware posting--they are deleted…. so no forum records will exist--other than what the people who we report these posts to have.
I would like to PM with one to discuss. I believe that we can stop some of them before they post--so no one is at risk wo may innocently click on their links, before they have been detected & deleted.
I see one now: How to Convert M2TS Blu-Ray Folder for iTunes

Too late to edit my previous comment, but I was trying to send before checking spelling & I made this funny word:

OfflineHere is another, (deleted)
why can't these be stopped before they post something that may be of harm to not only our established members, but to those who are new, or guests, who are not aware of these constant threats?? These converter spammers always put the websites in their bios:
First Name niki Last Name gui
Location Member Since May 24, 2010
Short Biography (link deleted)
They only come to post, usually 1 time, enough to try to get someone to click on one of their links.
Hey why don't we make a rule on the forums so that new members who post (like maybe the first 5~10 posts) have to be moderated by admins before they are shown on the forums? Then afterwards they become "established" members and can post like normal members?
This way however, would require more admins, such as Al, Wheezer and myself.

Yes…..most of them have been. Since I reported about a month ago that they all were using names that had like 6 letters & 4 numbers (won't use a real example here) they've switched tactics.
Offline@ Adrian: Ugh. That seems an unnecessary route to go down, IMO. Just use basic commonsense. This whole "spamcop" thing is in danger of becoming excessively nazi-like. Appreciate the sentiment, boys, but really …get a grip, hey. All it takes is using an ounce of nous. No need for more boys or girls in blue. Particularly not the zealot types. And I don't know what the Chinese names things is meant to mean, but Adrian, that can be construed very badly, so please keep a lid on that sort of stuff. I for one find it quite offensive.

Good ideas!
Also, as far as the …."would require more admins, such as Al, Wheezer and myself.

……..I'm not so sure about the other one……..

Do not post the links that the spammers are posting. By doing this you are helping them

This could very well be a distraction ploy especially since you can choose any name you want. I would not put any stock in the user name. Just a thought.

Offline@everyone: calm down. The admins will continue to delete obvious spam and the spammer's accounts. But as phoenix_rising said, a little dose of common sense goes a long way to remaining safe on the web.
And no singling out any users by race, ethnicity, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Offline@Everyone: Please, read Karen's latest post again. Then scroll up further and re-read Phoenix_Rising's posts.
We need to keep this calm, and the derogatory statements about one group or "kind" of people is as offensive as it gets. For me, anyone making those comments instantly looses 99.9% of their credibility.
And as for comments suggesting that I would make a good admin,,, sorry, you couldn't be more wrong. Admins on any site that is worth visiting are calm people that have the ability to step back and look at the big picture at the same time they examine a situation up close. They are level headed people that deserve our respect. I am neither of those things. If you knew how ticked off I get at some posts and people, you'd never suggest me as an admin either.
So thanks for the vote of confidence, but if I, or anyone else for that matter, would be a good admin, Ashraf would have already made me or them an admin. Repeatedly asking to be made one is just frustrating to read when it's done over and over and over again.
Now let's move on to talking about the best freebie that anyone has found today, in a different thread of course.
