Uninstalled MSSE, ran CCleaner, TuneUp Utilities 09, & Malwarebytes (nothing found).

Reinstalled MSSE, updated, scanned.

Ran CCleaner & TU09 again.

Rebooted.

MSSE didn't start by it's self. I had to do it manually.

Just for grins, I checked the startup list in TU09 and Anvir Task Manager, both have MSSE as a program that should start by it's self.

Start, Run

type "services.msc" (without quotes)

look for Microsoft Antimalware Service

Double click it

Look for startup type

Is it set to Automatic?

If thats ok

uninstall AV

run tuneup, ccleaner etc...

maybe even run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or similar program just in case.

then reinstall AV

What startup manager do you use. Is MSE still set to start?

TuneUp Utilities 2009 and Anvir Task Manager both have a startup manager. I thought maybe the two of them were canceling each other out, so tried turning MSSE off in one and on in the other. Then reversed which was on and which was off. No change in the problem. So now I'm back to having it on in both startup managers.

In MSSE I've got it set to start right away with the computer.

I checked CCleaner's startup list too, it's says MSSE is set to start.

I suddenly cant' get micrsoft security essentials to start when I start one of my computers. I have to open the control pannel for the program and then it'll start.

At first I thought it was a clash because I have anvir task manager and tuneup utilities 2009 running at the same time, because the problem started about the time I installed anvir. But I uninstalled anvir and the problem was stilll happening.

I tried downloading the latest updates, it still wouldln't start. I uninstalled and reinstalled ms security essentials, again, it still won't start.

On my second laptop, I installed the same program from the same file on my external hard drive and it starts up exactly as it should, when I turn on the power.

I'm out of ideas and have put a note on my desktop reminding me to turn ms security essentials on.
