The connections seem to be ok, and unfortuneately I don't have another monitor I can try. But thanks for the suggestions. And like I said it only happens on some games. For instance i played Torchlight this morning with no problem.

I recent got a new (well for me anyway) computer and on some games I get a black screen witha floating msg that say (Frequency out of Range) and I am still getting the sounds and when I hit Cntrl+ Alt+ Del to get ot of it I can see the actual game screen for a few sec. when I did a bing search for this error it was suggested that some of the video drivers might be out of date. (this was a rebuilt computer) so far I have seen this happen on some of the Gamehouse free games (domino gold was one) and Sandlot's Granny's games. but not others. Any ideas? Or perhaps a good driver checking program that can check and update drivers if needed?
