I do wonder if those running GOTD have a clue about user experience.

First it was the daft stickr situation that has had to be resolved by amending the Hosts file on the computer of every GOTD visitor who never asked for and can't stand the intrusive yellow splashes.

Now it's a newly-launched bottom-of-screen Web Informer 'bookmark & share' intrusion.

If anyone here knows of a quick-fix kill for this stupid "enhancement", that'd be appreciated.

The way GOTD is going with its screen cluttering obstructiveness is downright bizarre: does it want users to visit its site or not?

@MikeR

The easiest way to rid yourself of Stickr or Web Informer when visiting GOTD site is to disable javascript for that site. In Opera, you can set this by right clicking on the page and editting site preferences then disabling scripting. I have little clue as to how to do it in Firefox but i think there's a per site preference as well for that browser or you can use NoScript.

The bad side to this is that you cannot post comments if you want to since it is javascript dependent. Otherwise, if you just browse through it and don't post, disabled js is the simplest way to go.

Many thanks, o(o.o)o: much appreciated!

For some  weird reason, the Web Informer thingie has vanished from my screen now. Perhaps GOTD has already scrapped it. . .

@MikeR: NoScript works very well for FF. And you can enable/disable it on a per site basis.

BTW, they already toke off the stupid bar on the bottom of the screen. It's just Stickr… I find it annoying too. But atleast they made it less annoying now!

Use Adblock Plus http://adblockplus.org/

Add filter: |http://stickr.com/*

Thanks for the input, gang. It does seem as though the Web Informer bar has gone, but perhaps I'm being premature. Incidentally, I'm using IE, so amending the PC's Hosts File to be rid of Stickr from the get-go was less than a minute's work. To judge from continuing complaints on GOTD comments threads though, many GOTD visitors seem unaware of how easy it is to defeat Stickr. I do wish GOTD would stop scoring own goals like this.

Hosts files are at a system, not browser, level. So it'll work in Firefox and in Chrome and IE.
