You know what's funny? No program besides my Google Chrome can connect to the internet. Its not just the GOTD Setup. Now that I have the MSE (thanks karen!) and the default Windows Firewall up and running, I'm just going to completely uninstall McAfee. I'll possibly re-download and try it again (just because its free) in the future. So, if I get a virus that kills my computer, its been a pleasure everyone.

It's also preinstalled on all Dell computers – and these days, a six month free suscription at minimum is required with your purchase – you do NOT have the option to remove it before receiving the computer. Dell say this is to protect the inexperienced, and make sure you're safe from the start, but it's well known that McAfee is weak protection at best.

The McAfee install doesn't work. It says some piece is missing from the installer (even after I re-download it) . I'm going to try and contact their company and see if they can diagnose it.

@The Living Spirit

Yup. It comes free with my internet service. That's the only reason I use it. If I have to pay for it, forget it. I would move on to something else.

Apparently, my McAfee was so messed up, that it couldn't scan for viruses. I'm beginning to think that it was McAfee all along. Once it finishes scanning, I'll post an update.

@Gibbster and karen

If I ever had to reinstall Vista, I would probably just update to Windows 7. I tried updates, but they didn't work. After this, I will probably go and manually select which updates to perform. I'm not sure that that will work, but I know that when you "Shut Down and Install Updates" you don't actually install all the updates. So, I'm going to look around and see if there is a problem now. As for the internet, it is wifi (PPPOE), and we've had some troubles a while back. We couldn't connect for a week, but we ended up fixing it by re-configuring it. I think that may be the problem. However, it is possible that my McAfee isn't working correctly. It says "My Computer is not protected" and when you click the "Fix" button, nothing happens. So, it is either the McAfee or the router problems. Before I go messing with them, I'd like to know which one is more likely the problem. Thanks.

Edit: I forgot to say that I'm only running the broken McAfee and the default Microsoft Firewall. I configured the Microsoft one to not care about internet, so I doubt that that is the problem.

Are you running multiple firewalls or anti-malware programs? Maybe they are conflicting... Or like was suggested above, if you are on wifi, change to a wired connection temporarily. You haven't changed the configuration on your router lately, have you? It would be possible (although unlikely) for the router/firewall rules to not allow certain traffic through.

You know you could always just reinstall vista and update drivers and window updates. That would solve the problem maybe but it wouldn't tell what happened. Then if that doesn't work well then it probably is the hardware thats maybe messed up. Are you using wi-fi or cord to connect to the internet? You internet connection, might not be connecting right.
