Hello

I need help to get rid of what I believe is called a “smit fraud” trojan or malware. It pops a window up that says Congratulations you have won a $1000 Walmart gift card. Another one pops up that says I have registry errors and this one reduces my window from full screen. Another one is from someone named Kevin which I believe is a get rich quick scheme. I would like to track Kevin down and remove him from the gene pool.

I download Threatwire and I have Norton. Neither of these can detect this mess. I also ran Malwarebytes and still no success.

I am not a computer specialist and would appreciate any help that anyone could give me.

Thanks.

You should always remember to disconnect from the internet and the scans are more effective when windows is in safe mode.

I'm guessing you have already solved this by now but if you haven't you could try Superantispyware, it's not great at trojans but is great at getting rid of stuff like this which seems more like adware, also works in safe mode. Like I said though you probably already solved this.

One thing I wouldn't mind seeing is anyone (not just you Broken Tree) that does get their problems corrected is if they could just post so, it just helps others from wasting their time trying to help when/if the help is no longer needed.

I very much agree. It's good manners.
