OfflineCleaning the registry probably won't do much. You need to
a) Look for installed programs that are "always on" that may be causing the slowdown
b) Check your power settings (if you are on a laptop) to ensure you are not on Power Saver
c) Defragment your hard drive
What are the specs of you computer?
OfflineI'd also do scan for viruses, Mailware and to be paranoid, rootkits
for the Mailware I'd use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.malwarebytes.org/), use the free version
and even though it is in beta, Malwarbytes' have a free anti-rootkit scanner http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/mbar/
and for anti-virus, as well as doing a scan with the AV installed, maybe do a scan with an online AV scanner? Something like the ESET Online Scanner. http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
