You might want to check the audio settings for YouTube's/whatever video site's flash player. The volume might have been muted for the player since the Windows Sounds work.

Did the sound stop straight after you got rid of the…whatever it was you had. Or did the sound work fine for a while after that?

drives for what?…..wait let me check, WOW….
….my speakers work again!!?? that was weird!…..im not sure if this effects anything but i have a headphone jack splitter…..to have two speakers for the computer, what i did was just pluged the 1 speacker in and it worked!….hhmm….maybe the spitter is broke???…..wait, that wasnt the problem before, it was a pop up that said "no mixer installed"….don't know what that means but at least for now got my audio to work again!
