Hi, I had the exact same problem with the inability to change screen brightness, then I read your post and found it was indeed because of installing TeamViewer. It seemed to want to install its own display driver, so in Device Manager I selected a Microsoft signed driver for the monitor instead. Didn't need to uninstall the program with this method.

Well I have fixed the problem with the screen brightness. It seems that teamviewer installed a display adapter on the computer and although I have the latest driver for my video card it seems the operating system was using this one for some reason. But now I have uninstalled teamviewer and the display driver is gone and the problem with the brightness is too. I am glad for that. Oh and that driver was also causing a problem with my dvd copy protection and the region codes which made it so I couldn't really watch movies.

But the problem with the external HD partition's letter changing to none is still there and still don't know how to fix it. But it is bearable. I did try using the OS's disk management tool to change it and the same thing happened. So not a problem with the software that was used.

Thanks for the suggestion of the program I intend to use it. But unfortunately its usage is not related to the main problem. I still will not be able to change the brightness but it will make the brightness more bearable at night. Hopefully I will be able to find a solution before I go on a plane trip in a while. It really drains the battery like twice as fast if you can't adjust the brightness. But thanks again for the tip. And I will try the disk management utility in windows if the problem happens again.

If anyone else has any suggestions that I can try to enable me to change the brightness then I would really appreciate it.

Sorry that no one has answered your questions, but I may have a solution for your first (and possibly second) problem.

If you are using your computer at night, I recommend F.Lux (/forums/freeware-software/f-lux/#p8859), which changes the saturation and makes computer usage at night extremely good.

As for the drive letter problem, have you tried using "Disk Management"? It is included with Windows, and it can adjust drive letters and such. I haven't used the Disk Management tool in a while, so I'm a bit rusty. I'll try to answer any questions about it, but I may not be able to. I'm sure other dotTechies know more than me when it comes to that program, so they can give more helpful advice.

So does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I have looked on many places online but cannot find any way to fix it or change the brightness. It is getting really annoying. Full brightness is okay in the daytime but at night it is just too bright.

Okay as the title says I have two problems. The first is that I can no longer dim my display. Of course I want to do that sometimes as I like to take my laptop with me sometimes and extend the battery life that way. But now it is not there. I can't do it with the hotkeys on my keyboard or in the power options in control panel. And I have no other way to do that. As far as I can remember I haven't installed or uninstalled any new programs before or since the problem started. So I don't know what the problem could be.

The other problem I am having and have been having consistently for a while is the letter for one of the partitions on my portable hard drive keeps changing from the correct letter to having no letter. I keep changing it back with Easeus partition manager but then later it changes back. As far as I can remember it hasn't happened when the hard drive has stayed connected but only when I unconnect it, leave it unconnected for a few days, and then connect it again. But not all of the letters change to none. Only one of them does.

I am using Windows 7 Proffesional. So if anyone knows the solution to either of these problems then please enlighten me as they are starting to drive me crazy.
