Wait a second--you said it was only the display that had died? You also have another couple options.

Hook the computer up to an external monitor. If your computer is anything like the Inspirons I have, it has an FN key labeled something like CRT/LCD. Try that.
Take the hard drive and put it into another laptop/computer that has two bays.

Well if you have your data on an external hard drive there is no need to use any program. You should be able to plug it right into your other laptop and use it since it isn't a primary partition.

If it was an internal hard drive, yes you should be able to use the full version of PDC10P to do this.

And I don't know of any free program that has a P2P Adjust OS-like feature.

For starters I'd like to admit that since return of prodigy Ashraf I keep browsing your site on a daily basis. Thanks a lot Ashraf and al, you successfully defeated the saying 'Only God (Allah) is perfect': you created an absolutely perfect site. Amen.

Now back to a sinful earth. I have a pretty old laptop Dell Inspiron 5160 that among other software has Websphere and Visual Studio 2008 installed. My primary occupation is mainframe, but also I do some front end programming in Java/.Net, so I do not want to loose these programs. Recently display of the Inspiron died, but I can use external monitor.

Ashraf put in Paragon Drive 10 Personal SE review:

My question: if I'd acquire full version Paragon Drive Copy
10 Personal could I transfer completely all what is installed on Dell on an external hard drive and use this HD with my other laptop (Toshiba A505, Win7 64bit) as Ashraf stated above? Is there free software I can use (Ashraf mentioned Easeus v2)? And BTW I have Norton Ghost installed on Inspiron, can I use it for this purpose?
