I have read conflicting advice about running two firewalls at the one time. Some say they conflict and others mention a ‘mirror effect’, the later claiming it is more effective and bounces intruders out if they get past one of the firewalls. I have been using Outpost Firewall & have read good things about Online Armour so I’m wondering if having both active would help or hinder my security efforts?

I agree.

If you want my advice, Outpost is less annoying but Online Armor comes with HIPS protection (which is why it can be very annoying – you may end up turning it off anyway). Both provide similar amounts of protection excluding the HIPS factor.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I did install Online Armor and on the second re-boot my computer crashed. I also found that although I ran the Online Armor Wizard etc., it still popped up frequently asking if I wanted to allow or block a program.

I’ll stay with Outpost Firewall for now and forget about running two firewalls at once.

Thanks again.

Try downloading both firewalls to have fresh installs as need, because everything else should be done offline. Set a Restore Point before proceeding.

If you have Outpost now, uninstall it with a third-party uninstaller, like Revo Uninstaller. Windows’ native Add/Remove Programs doesn’t clean the registry and leftover files/folders as well, imo. Re-boot into Safe Mode and install OA. Reboot into normal mode and go online. OA needs to update its’ database. It *will* drive you a little crazy with HIPS, but I personally prefer to make the decisions. If you have trouble, go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer and check the error logs for problems. Failing any resolution, re-boot into Safe Mode and uninstall OA and re-install Outpost.
