Hi there. I have a Vista machine, and once thing that annoys me is the sidebar. I don't need it, but my parents need them. The only problem however, is that the sidebar uses up a lot of RAM am I correct? I was just wondering if there's any registry hack or programs which could disable the sidebar but keep the widget.

Is there any way to do that? What I meant was like the Windows 7 feature. It doesn't have a sidebar, but widgets instead. That's what I want. Laugh

Any suggestions?

I made a typo on the thread… it should read “Sidebar Annoyance: Any registry hack or program to disable the sidebar but keep the widget?”.

My bad…

I am sorry to say that i don't think this is possible, even if you ofund a way to hide the sidebar, it would still use the same amount of RAM.

I run Vista, and as far as i know you cannot disable the sidebar and keep the widgets as they run from the sidbar extension, unfortunately.

If i remember correctly, Yahoo has it's own Widget platform that acts simply like the Windows 7 gadgets, so i suppose if you want to keep the widgets on the desktop, but without the sidebar, you could use Yahoo Widgets.

There may be some registry entry to hide the bar, but it would not lower the RAM usage in any way. SorryFrown

I wish the same thing, as i use the gadgets but would prefer them not to have the bar at the side. You could just google around and see what you find.

Difficult, to be sure…..but it shall be done!!
