OfflineGreetings all! I was wondering if anyone was having problems installing SnagIt on Windows 7. I installed W7 yesterday, and cannot get it to install. Which is a real pain in the rear end as I use SnagIt all the time. The problem is that it begins installing ok, but then hangs with two or three seconds remaining … and that's as far as it gets. I looked online but couldn't find an answer. Would any of you good folks out there know of a solution?
OfflineHi Ashraf! Yep, am on W7 32-bit. I tried installing as administrator – by that you mean clicking on "run as administrator" thing, right? But no luck. All goes well until it says "2 seconds remaining" and then …. nothing. I just cannot seem to get it to install.
OfflineAre you still using the old version 7. whatever?
If so, you can get 50% off with your free key you got. I know it isn't free but maybe it will help.
I'm still learning snipping tool and afraid to upgrade to windows 7 just for these reasons. Have it here right on my desk.
You can still use fast Stone no? and sniiping tool is it not in windows 7? I'll keep my eyes out for you.
Vidimo Se!

Sorry – I have no idea what is up =(.
@Steelers6 – Window 7 still has Snipping Tool and yes FastStone still works on Windows 7.
Offline@ Evan: I still haven't been able to solve the problem with the SnagIt installation. According to the so-called experts I have consulted, it seems to be an incompatibility problem with some program I have installed, although they had no idea which (read that as: we haven't got a clue). Anyway, I was searching for an alternative that would be as good, and more specifically that would allow me to save my screen captures into PDFs (the main reason I loved SnagIt, actually). After trawling the internet, I came across Solid Capture, which does just that. And raymond.cc's website has a working link to a free download (it is normally for purchase). The link is: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2009/03/30/free-solid-capture-unlock-code-worth-2995-for-everyone/#more-4122
I think this might be what we are both looking for. If we have to give up on SnagIt for the time being, might as well go for something on par with it.
I hope this helps.
OfflineOzzie said:Hmmm, just discovered that the window scrolling tool only work with IE (which I am not a fan of). And this looked so promising, too …
Windows scrolling is a peciluar feature. So far the best screenshot tool I have used for capturing scrolling Windows is FastStone Capture; it does it better than even SnagIt. However FastStone Capture is also not perfect, sometimes messing up itself.
OfflineOk, I found a work-around for Solid Capture (http://blog.soliddocuments.com/2008/03/scrolling-window-capture-in-firefox.html). Thanks to the very useful Firefox "IE Tab" extension, web pages in FF can be opened in IE and scrolled that way.
The reason I like having a built-in editor and PDF conversion tool in SnagIt and Solid Capture, as opposed to just a scroll-down web page snapshot tool alone, is that I gather research info from such places as Googlebooks. I can them compile all those page captures into PDFs with a couple of clicks of the mouse. Frees up a lot of time and makes research that bit easier.
So Evan, if you are still out there, you might want to give this a try.
Hey Ozzie, I'm still around and I've been reading each of these posts. You've done a great job of keeping up on this.
I haven't because of I haven't had the chance to try messing with SnagIt again. My full time job, my family, my forum, and my best friend getting married has kept me a little busy, lol.
I want to track down what might be keeping the SnagIt from working (namely what program, if any, is causing the conflict) but that is going to take some Sysinternals level digging.
I was wondering how many posts it takes to get off the "I'm new around here" status… I know I can change it on my forum (I think I added something like "Spaz Ninja" for the 10,000 mark) but that's something that Ashraf will have to deal with if he wants.
Speaking of digging into the internals of all this, Ashraf, I still need to look into the whole Anvir, Process Explorer, Task Manager memory usage issue I mentioned to you a few weeks back. I haven't forgot…I'm just way too busy.

OfflineHi Evan. I hope you have better luck than I in tracking down what is causing the install conflict. I don't understand the system internals, so I am loathe to mess in territory that may cause me unnecessary grief. But please post if you ever find an answer to the problem! In the meantime, check out Solid Capture as an alternative. It is at least a contender.
