OfflineI tried asking this question a few months ago while using my old XP laptop and never got an answer.Since the problem continued to be an issue on my new windows7 laptop too, I figured I'd ask again.
I use FireFox 99.999% of the time. On every site except dotTech the automatic spell checker works great. But when I post here, it doesn't work. I have to right click and then put a check mark in front of the "Check Spelling" option.
Unfortunately, I don't always remember to do that and end up with some pretty badly spelled words in my posts. Which granted, isn't that big a deal, but it's something that kinda bugs me a little.
Am I missing a setting in my profile or something?
Any ideas are welcome and appreciated.
OfflineHey there, Wheezer. There are some Firefox add-ons you can check out:
After the Deadline – Spell and Grammar Checker: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/58947
Spell Checker (which hasn't yet been updated for the latest FF upgrade, but should be soon enough): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11259
Offline@Wheezer. Just so you don't feel left out, I too have encountered spell-check quirk and wondered what was wrong but, unlike you, didn't bother much enough about it to raise a complaint.
That was before. Now is the time to start shouting, so..
Mr. BOSS, why does the spell checker built in to the dotTech "Reply to Topic" window seem to NOT WORK..?
I have tried to right click etc. as mentioned by Wheezer – without success.
(Using FF 3.6)
Offline@ AlanR: If you're having problems with the FF spell check, check out these articles:

Thanks for pointers Phoenix, but I think you missed the focal point in Wheezeers post. He was asking specifically about the dotTech embedded spell-checker, what you have (usefully, I am pleased to say) informed are external utilities that should not be needed in this case.
If it is any consolation, there is a way of making the older FF spell checker add-on work in the current FF – let me know if you need help to do this. LOL
- Don't actually use it myself, just prefer to blame mistakes on my dislexic keyboard..

Mmmmmmm.! Back to school eh.? With those nanny specs, becoming bit of a school ma'am now..
Anyway, your intentions are good, so no worries.
As said before, I don't normally use spell-checkers myself, just prefer to blame mistakes on my
dislexic keyboard..

Good lik! (That also was a deliberate typo by the way) but let's stay on-topic.
OfflinePhoenix: Many hours ago, before the crap hit the fan, I installed the spell check add-on you mentioned.
For your own future referance, it was a dud. I've uninstalled it.
But thanks for the help anyway!

The one at Cogizio.org. Yes, my midnight.
Man, what a cold night.! Took a look, in the crypt, at your
Hack Attack: Make old extensions install in new versions of Firefox
only to find it was essentially the same as what was alluded to Phoenix in my above post.
But thanks for saving me the time to explain in detail.
Thought you were going to surprise us all with a genius fix to the spell-checker problem – what a let down.
Even Mr. BOSS has admitted to this defect.
You guys can't expect Karen to do the dirty work this time but, if she can, then her title would need substantial embellishment – like AdminiStar.
Go for it gal. LOL
