Phew, I'm thus not alone in not being able to run my OS in a VM.

All this however does not explain why the software BITS indicating a negative response regarding virtualisation...

Thanks !

The only thing it's saying isn't supported is hardware-level virtualization. Regular, old-fashioned virtualization is still entirely possible.

I have an HP Notebook dv7t, 32 bit win 7 and also no virtualization stuff in the cpu/mb. I run virtual box all the time with windows xp/ or a linux guest os without any issues. There are a few things I can't do, some settings I can't use but it works great.

I have never had any luck copying my O/S into a virtual machine. I just can't get them to work, so maybe that is your issue instead of a hardware one.

I haven't had any luck using the vmware diskfile (vhd) with virtual box. They are suppose to work but I always have trouble, so I just use the virtual box file (vdi) and install all of the o/s' from scratch.

I created two VM of my OS without problem (the one with Disk2vhd, the other with Paragon)... in the workmanlike , that is to say by following at the letter the instructions found on this site.
They do not work in VirtualBox.
This is not a priority for me and I dropped the thing.
By discovering BITS and learning that my OS would not accept the virtualization, I'm just wondering to know the cause.

Hi,

I discover today a freeware called BITS wich shows you if your Windows is 32 or 64 bits AND if your CPU supports 64-bits and hardware virtualization (useful for VirtualPC, VMWare and XP Mode on Windows 7).

The results for my PC (XP sp 3) regarding virtualization is negative.

I knew that because I've already try in vain to run a virtual machine.

Does anyone have any idea if this is related to XP, SP3 or -if not- where it could possibly come from?
