OfflineHi,everyone!
New member here. I was uninstalling some games the other day, using 'Revo Uninstaller',which,as you will all probably know, creates a 'system restore' point before uninstalling the program. On this occasion, the creation process failed.
Ever since then,I have been unable to access System Restore, all sound has disappeared from my PC,my anti-virus/firewall is not working, according to the system-tray,and my internet connection has also been lost (obviously not true)
I am getting messages saying that something called 'Volume Shadow Copy Service' is causing the block on System Restore. I went on to 'services.msc',and made sure the program was 'started' and set to 'automatic',did a full scan with 'Malwarebytes'(clear),and tried a system recovery disc, all to no avail.I am also being told that I have no detectable DVD/CD drive on my system!
The system is otherwise OK,as far as I can tell, apart from not being able to use Windows Update either. I have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7,so may be able to use my upgrade disc to re-install my OS,but will it restore my sound? I really miss my music!
Please help,if you can. Thanks for reading, anyway.

OfflineIf you re-install your OS it will most likely fix your sound. Since you have the Windows CD, maybe you want to try and do a system repair first. The disc will give you the possibility to do a system restore without using the OS. It might work this way.
Oh and try the system restore in Safe Mode first, it should work this way.
Keep us posted.

This is the exact wording of the message that I receive every time that I try to access System Restore:-
System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system.
A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error.
Check the Application Event Log for more information. (0x80042302)
Any ideas on what to do next? I tried to enter safe mode by pressing f8 after restarting, but it just starts normally. Thanks anyway.

OfflineOk, no big deal. You can still boot in Safe Mode via windows:
- Click on start and type " msconfig " in the search box, hit Enter.
- Go in the BOOT tab and check the option Boot In Safe Mode. Click Apply and Ok, your system will ask you to restart, please do so. Windows will load in safe mode, try the system restore from there.
