I'd give my 2 cents, but I'm broke!

So here's 1 cent: Have you tried forums from MS, or Win7 (I know there are several I've used just for Vista), or others? As often typing in the search there comes up with (sometimes) helpful info, as others may have gone thru similar stuff.

There is also the live MS tech chat I've used, or with your manufacturers phone or email support, or............

All the machines are in the same network, and the port was forwarded in the router. Everything works fine using the default port 3389. I'm trying to get it to work with a different port. It's possible but i'm stuck at making the app listen to the new port in windows firewall... Piece of cake in vista but 7 is playing hard to get.

To Pwnana:

Hey I just checked out that Hamachi thingy. It is interesting enough to have in my library. And to answer your second question... I guess I'm being a rebel and don't want to follow the rule!

Nah but seriously, it really nags me knowing that I'm this close to get it but I'm stuck!

Oh and thanks for the info!

No clue how to answer your question directly, but what do you want to use Remote Desktop for?

Maybe something else could serve your purposes like LogMeIn, TeamViewer, etc.

When I was using Vista HP I was using either LogMeIn, Teamviewer or VNC ( what can I say, I had to try them all). But Since I've migrated all my machines to Win 7, I can take advantage of the Remote Desktop feature, which I have to say surpassed the others in terms of responsiveness (wow! that was a big one for me!)

Long story short, I can use RD fine with the default settings, but I want to go the extra mile by using my own.

Win 7 ----> Control Panel - Windows Firewall - Advance Settings - Inbound Rules

There I created a new rule with the port of my choice, no problems.

Now I need to make RD ( or mstsc) listen to that port.

In all my searches they tell you only how to change the port in the registry.

That's one step, the other one...?

I feel a long night coming...!

Hello everyone. Here's the deal...

I'm trying to get Remote Desktop to listen to a different port (41442) than the default one (3389) in the Windows Firewall. I have so far created a new rule with the specific port (41442) that I want to use. Now I need to make Remote Desktop listen to that port. There's already a rule for Remote Desktop which I can't modify.

Any clues anyone?

Thank You!
