Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the Advanced tab.
Click Environment variables.
In the bottom window scroll down til you see "Path"
Click on Path to highlight it then click "Edit".
After you click Edit a small window will open. On the path right click and choose select all.

 

And that showed that for some reason it was looking for my firewall and anti-virus on my external drive now and not my C: drive. Once that was fixed it went back to working normally. I have the actual picture but am unsure how to actually post it here in the reply. I tried to upload the picture but it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe because I am using Opera. Anyway hopefully the description will help in case anyone else runs into a similar problem. Don't know what cause the change as no malware was found either.

That way the Security Center won't bother you with notices. All that matters is that you know that your firewall and antivirus are functioning. After all, what the Security Center is really saying is that it, the Security Center, isn't functioning properly.

Also Suze I did get that update. In fact everything was fine up until this weekend when I got that update. It was after restarting the system that this problem appeared. I suspect that this might be the problem. I ran this program today per ongoing suggestion from Microsoft answers aswMBR and the only thing that it found that it highlighted in yellow was this line:

 

 Service MpKsl29201048 C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftMicrosoft AntimalwareDefinition Updates{91E82835-1167-4784-BFFB-1C8A43781339}MpKsl29201048.sys **LOCKED** 32 But don't know how to "unlock" it.

I can see it possibly not recognizing Zone Alarm in which case you might pose the question at a Zone Alarm forum. But it should recognize MSE anti virus. Just for the heck of it you might want to make sure that windows firewall is turned off (via Control Panel>Security Center) as it might conflict with Zone Alarm Firewall. It's not good to have two firewalls running.

Elric, I hope you've been able to solve your problem.  There was a Security Update for Windows XP (KB2718704) this Monday (6/4).  Perhaps installing this will fix your problem?
