It looks like the education sector wants to get in on the patent war fun. A Taiwanese university, National Cheng Kung University, has filed a lawsuit claiming Apple is fringing on its patents with Siri. Specifically, the university asserts Apple’s Siri infringes on two voice recognition voice-to-text patents held by the university; the two patents in question are US patents that were granted to the university in 2007 and 2010.…Read More »

In the patent world there are some patents, called FRAND patents, that are considered to be industry standard. These patents, decided upon by standard setting bodies, must be fairly licensed to all interested parties.
