With the recent Chrome update, you can notice that the profile switcher has been changed and moved to the upper-right section of your browser. Instead of the usual profile icons (the icons for cat, dog, horse, pizza, etc.), you get a new avatar menu that flaunts your profile name. Of course, that also applies to all the users that you’ve linked to Chrome.
If you wish to revert back to the old profile switcher and remove the new avatar menu, you may refer to the steps listed below.
How to disable the new avatar menu in Chrome

- Open your Chrome web browser.
- On your browser’s address bar, type “chrome://flags”. Make sure to remove the quotes.
- Press “Enter”.
- You will then be taken to your browser’s experimental features page. On the said page, find the option for “new avatar menu”. For a quicker find, just enter “Ctrl + F” then type “Enable the new avatar menu” on the find tool.
- So what’s next? The new avatar menu will be automatically highlighted. Check whether it’s enabled or disabled. If it’s enabled, just click the drop-down menu right below it then select “Disabled”.

- You will then be prompted to restart or relaunch your browser. Just click the “Relaunch Now” at the bottom of the page to confirm.
- After relaunch, you can immediately notice that the new avatar menu (also referred to as “name badge”) no longer exists at the top-right section of your web browser.
- Instead, you’ll be seeing the usual profile badge on the top-left corner of Chrome.
