How to root Galaxy Tab S 10.5 SM-807 and install TWRP recovery [Guide]

Samsung Tab S 10.5These are the instructions to root Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 SM-807. The same instructions teach you how to install TWRP recovery on Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with the same model number.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The following guide is made only for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with the model number SM-807. Do not attempt flashing this file on a different model number. There are several model numbers of this tablet, so you should check yours by pointing to the Settings > About Device and taking a look.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • Download the Samsung USB Drivers for mobile phones. You may get them from several sources, although we have the direct link over to Samsung’s website available from this page.
  • You are connecting to a Windows computer during the guide. As such, you’ll need to have the USB Debugging Mode enabled or else connecting to that computer won’t work. Do that by heading to the Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging.
  • Moreover, those of you without any Developer Options menu must unlock it or else you will not have the USB Debugging Mode enabled. Do that by pointing to the Settings > About Device > tap over the build number until it says you are a developer. You’ll now see that Developer Options menu from the Settings.
  • Applying these steps to root Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 come at a price. You will void the warranty, and should your device come with Knox security, you won’t get that back. Head to the Samsung Knox website and check if your device comes with Knox security. Those without Knox can unroot the device and the warranty will work again.

HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB S 10.5 SM-807 AND INSTALL TWRP RECOVERY

  1. Download the Root and TWRP recovery file from here.
  2. Download Odin 3.10 from here.
  3. Move both files over to the desktop of your computer — it must be a Windows PC.
  4. Right-click over the files and select the ‘extract here’ option.
  5. Long-press the Power button your Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 tablet so it is off.
  6. Reboot the Tab S 10.5 in download mode by pressing the Volume Down + Home + Power keys.
  7. Connect the tablet to the computer using the USB cable.
  8. Click the AP button and browse the desktop for the Auto-Root-TWRP file.
  9. There’s no need to adjust any of the default settings in Odin; just press the Start button and it will now root and flash that custom recovery on your device.
  10. After some minutes your device will automatically reboot since we have the Auto Reboot box checked in Odin. In addition to the reboot, you should see Odin give you a ‘pass’ message on the display, letting you know that everything went swell.

Now you can unplug from the computer as you normally would and use your device with root access and custom recovery. Since you have both, you can instantly start flashing custom ROMs and check out root-only apps from the Google Play Store.
