How to enter download mode on Samsung Galaxy Note [Guide]

Samsung_Galaxy_NoteDownload mode on the Samsung Galaxy Note is often referred to as Odin download mode because it’s the mode you must put your smartphone in before you use the Odin flashing tool. The Odin flashing tool is only made for Samsung devices and we only refer to download mode for Samsung devices too. Most other devices refer to a similar mode as fastboot mode or bootloader mode.

We are showing you several methods for entering down load mode on Samsung Galaxy Note smartphones. The second method using the Android SDK is for advanced Android users only and requires you to have a computer. It’s from the computer that you will be entering commands from the command prompt window. The final options is using an application. While the app sounds like the easiest way, unfortunately it is only available for rooted users. Since most people reading this are not yet rooted users, we are putting that option last on our list.

Using the hardware keys

  • Press the Power button once and select the Switch Off option from the Device Options menu.
  • Reboot the device holding the Volume Down + Home + Power at the same time.
  • Wait until the Samsung Galaxy Note screen changes before you release the three buttons.
  • Soon you should see some yellow text and a warning triangle beneath the text. The text on the display is telling you to press the Volume Up key to continue.
  • Press the Volume Up key to continue to put your device in the Download Mode.
  • Once in the download mode, you are ready to connect your Galaxy Note device to the computer using the USB cable.

Using the Android SDK

  • A more advanced method for accessing the download mode on any Samsung device is to use the Android SDK. The Android SDK itself is more for developing apps, but you can use the ADb and Fastboot found in the Android SDK to help with your commands from the command prompt.
  • Learn how to set up ADB and fastboot on your Windows computer.
  • Have the Android SDK folder open on your computer after you install it.
  • Connect your device to the computer using the USB cable.
  • From within the SDK folder, hold the Shift key and right-click the mouse to bring up a new menu where you must choose the “open a new command window here” option.
  • Type the command: “adb reboot download” and hit Enter / Return.
  • Now your device will reboot in the download mode and ready to be used with Odin.

Using the Quick Boot app

  • Open the Google Play Store app.
  • Log in to your Google account.
  • Browse the Play Store for the Quick Boot app.
  • Open the Quick Boot app once it’s finished downloading and choose the option for reboot in download mode.
