Build yearly timelapses with PhotoChron [Android]

Though taking a timelapse over a few hours with an app like Lapse It might be interesting, what’s more touching is a timelapse that takes place over a longer period of time. You can keep track of your baby’s growth, or just watch yourself change over time. PhotoChron is a great little app that lets you take regular photos and turn them into a great little timelapse.

Developer Andy Dyer-Smith had a baby sometime last year, and decided to keep track of his growth. That’s why he created PhotoChron: now, he can take a photo every day, week, or month to track Isaac’s growth. In just a few short weeks, he was able to make this 9-second video that already shows how Isaac’s been growing:

Now imagine doing it with your child–or yourself. PhotoChron can set up daily, weekly, or monthly reminders to take scheduled photos, so no matter what you’re timelapsing you can always remember. After you’ve taken a pile of pictures, you can export the video as HD or SD, and upload it to Facebook, YouTube, Google+, or just email to share it with your friends and family.

The developer knew that not everyone’s a perfect photographer, and especially with their phone cameras. If you mess up a shot, you can always crop it to realign it. It goes to show that the developer didn’t just build this app and shove it out into the world, but that he instead sat down with the app and used it himself. If you’re looking for an app that takes long-term timelapses and was designed by a developer that eats their own dogfood, PhotoChron is the perfect app for you.
