Facebook’s ‘@facebook.com’ e-mail change results in lost e-mails and corrupted address books

[1]As Ashraf had reported on June 26th [2], Facebook had changed the e-mail address of all its users to ‘@facebook.com’ from the original primary e-mail address. The move did bring in lots of criticism from all classes of Facebook users and it was also condemned by a large number of dotTechies, as you can see from the comments [3] to the mentioned post.

If you haven’t yet changed your e-mail address back to your original one, it is time to do it now. Just head over to the post by Ashraf to see how you can revert to your old e-mail address in Facebook. There are a few reasons why you should honestly consider changing your e-mail back to your regular one.

Firstly, it has been reported the address books of some users on phones and other devices have been automatically changed to replace personal e-mails with new Facebook e-mail addresses.

Secondly, and more importantly, many Facebook users who had their e-mail address changed to @facebook.com have complained that they are not receiving the e-mails that are being sent to their new Facebook e-mail address, neither in their mail inbox nor in their Facebook messages.

Adobe employee, Rachel Luxemburgm wrote on her blog:

Today, a co-worker discovered that his contact info for me had been silently updated to overwrite my work e-mail address with my Facebook e-mail address. He discovered this only after sending work e-mails to the wrong address.

And even worse, the e-mails are not actually in my Facebook messages. I checked.

They’ve vanished into the ether.

For all I know, I could be missing a lot more e-mails from friends, colleagues, or family members, and never even know it.

If you really think about it, the act by Facebook may potentially be classified to be equivalent to that of message interception; this, folks, should be treated very seriously. Shell out your thoughts to us in the comments [4] below.
