R2 Studios, a startup that focuses on home automation technology, made the news recently due to the high-profile companies trying to acquire them – namely, Apple, Microsoft and Google.
It looks like Microsoft is the one of the three that was able to seal the deal, although the price for the acquisition has not been made public. Further details from The Wall Street Journal note that Microsoft was able to acquire several patents regarding controlling various electronic devices.
Perhaps more important for Microsoft, however, is acquiring the technology that R2 Studios was working on involving different ways to display and distribute content to television screens.
Along with their current Kinect technology, as well the recent SmartGlass, this acquisition adds yet another weapon to Microsoft’s quest for your living room.
