REQUIREMENTS
- The guide below is made for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Do not try flashing the files on a different device. If you flash the files on the wrong device it will brick your device.The guide works with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop update it comes with out of the box. That is the latest software update at the time of writing this guide. We cannot guarantee this guide works in future software updates, including the soon to be Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
- Download the Samsung USB Driver [1] for mobile phones from pour page. It should be enough to install them now on the computer and continue with the guide. In spite of this, if you are not finding the guide working for you, try rebooting the computer. The drivers might need the computer to reboot before they start working.
- You are voiding the warranty by following this guide. Most problems causes directly from rooting are easily fixed with Samsung devices thanks to the user-friendly flashing process they have with the Odin tool. Just download your stock ROM and flash it through Odin. That should solve your bricking concerns. With that being said, should you need the warranty working again, unrooting it won’t necessarily work. Samsung devices have Knox security too.
HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 5 ON ANDROID 5.1 LOLLIPOP
- Download the custom kernel [2] to the desktop of the computer.
- Download the Odin flashing tool for Windows PC from here [3].
- Unzip both the custom kernel and the Odin flashing tool to the desktop of the computer.
- Reboot the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in download mode. You must press the Volume Down + Power + Home keys to get that done.
- Now that you are in the download mode, find the USB cable you usually use for charging.
- Connect the USB cable to the computer and the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
- Now you are ready to upload the custom kernel to Odin.
- Click the AP button and browse the desktop for the custom kernel. Remember, you must unzip the file before you can upload it with Odin.
- Leave the default settings in Odin. You should have the re-partition box empty.
- Click the Start button and let Odin take over.
- The Odin flashing tool will now continue to flash your device so it finishes up with the root access.
- Once you see the pass message on Odin’s display, you are free to unplug from the computer.
