Rooting the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphones can be done without having to install a custom recovery. We do it by installing the CF-Auto-Root tool by Chainfire–a popular one-click rooting method that is made available for nearly all Samsung devices. CF-Auto-Root is flashed the same way we flash a stock ROM with the Odin flashing tool only this time instead of getting a new ROM installed we are getting the SuperSU installed and enabled. Chainfire also makes the SuperSU app, and it is how most other people get root access when they install a custom recovery.
The following guide is going to take you through the steps on how to root the Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510F smartphones running on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates using the CF-Auto-Root tool method:
REQUIREMENTS
- You need a computer that is running a version of the Windows operating system to use this guide. The Odin flashing tool only runs on Windows.
- Chainfire was running on the LMY47X.A510FXXU2APC4 firmware build number when he created the CF-Auto-Root package found in this guide. It does not mean you need to be running on that same firmware as him when you are rooting the device. You can be running on any firmware build number that is based on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates if you have the SM-A510F model number. BEFORE WE BEGIN
- Unlock the Developer Options menu on the Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510F smartphone by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number. Tap on the build number at least seven times and do not stop until you can see a new message on the screen of the smartphone saying that you are using the device as a developer. That means you now have the Developer Options menu available from the settings.
- Turn on the USB Debugging Mode on the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone by heading back to the home screen and then tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode. Once you have checked the box next to the USB Debugging head back out of there and the Android operating system remembers your preferences.
- Install the Samsung USB Drivers on the Windows computer before you get started with the guide so the Samsung Galaxy A5 smartphone can get detected by the Odin flashing application when it is running on the computer.
