iOS has over 600,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our iOS Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! [Subscribe to our iOS section to never miss an article: RSS Feed | E-mail ]

Apps for March 25, 2012
Pixlr-omatic is a photo modification app that will take a photo and make it look very unique. The app will use either a photo you have on your device or take a photo with the camera. You can choose from a variety of effects that would either make it look like it is a very old picture, color washed, or even black and white. You can change some lighting effects on the picture to give it a different look or make it look like you don’t know how to take a picture. There are overlays that also change the entire aspect of the photo to where anyone would believe it wasn’t taken digitally. You can also put one of the borders included in the app to make it more personable. You can share the photo you just created to your friends via Facebook, imm.io, dropbox, iTunes, Flickr or email.
The free version only comes with a good selection of filters, borders and effects, but if you want more you can pay $2.99 for the Plus version through the free app or you can just buy it in the App store on iTunes and remove the free version.

Astraware Casino has a similar feel to gambling in a real casino with 11 games to choose from. You start off with $1000 (don’t worry, it’s not real), and you keep betting away hoping that you will have more money that you started off with. You can choose from Texas Hold ‘Em No Limit Poker, Texas Hold ‘Em Limit Poker, Blackjack, 3 Card Poker, Baccarat, Roulette, Craps, Video Poker, Slots, Video Derby, and Video Keno.
The app includes instructions on how to play all the games so there’s no need to go somewhere else to know how to play. As you continue to play the game, you will notice there is a bank which will either loan you money if your luck isn’t so great or store your winnings if you are playing very well. When you accomplish something in any of the games you will get a souvenir which awards you once you’ve made an achievement.

PayPal Here is an app that works in conjunction with a free encrypted card reader you get from PayPal. This card reader is plugged in to the headphone jack, and securely scans credit cards through the system to charge whatever amount your client owes. You can use VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express through this system that is secure as well as reliable with fraud protection for you and your customers. Every time you swipe a card there is a 2.7% transaction fee. You also can accept PayPal payments, use the iPhone camera to take photos of checks or even send an invoice. All monies you receive from your customers will go directly into your PayPal account. There are a few other things you can do in the app like manage all of your transactions in one place, charge multiple sales tax rates, automatically offer discounts, and even set up an inventory list.
Although this app is available right now, currently there is a limit as to who will receive the card reader and use this app to the fullest. They are only allowing a certain number of small business owners the flexibility of this service. If you are interested you can be put on a waiting list and be notified when you are eligible to use the card reader and the app. Also there were some reviews that this app doesn’t work too well with iPad, and it would seem that the best way to use this app is by using the iPhone only.
