Weather Underground is one of the more reputable weather sites on the internet. What separates it from the other weather-related sites is that personal weather stations (24,000+ of them) are also a part of their global network of weather providers. This allows you to get more pinpoint weather forecasts, rather than a general one about an entire town/city. Weather Underground’s iOS app provides all of this forecast information and much more. You get your typical current conditions, 7-day forecasts (with text summary), hourly forecasts, interactive radar/satellite maps, as well as a map of all personal weather stations in the area. Other features available are Twitter integration, weather radio, webcams, tropical forecasts, and much more.
Weather Underground does a good job of incorporating all of their site’s important features into their app. The push notifications for severe weather is quite useful, as are the adjustable settings for exactly what you want sent to you. So, for example, if you only want to be notified of fire advisories between the hours of 8 am and 10p m, then this app has the flexibility to do that. It is worth noting that you can remove ads for $1.99, but the developers make it $1.99 a year. The concept of this irritates me a bit given that ad-removal is almost always a one-time fee, but that just means I won’t spend the $1.99 to support their app, something I almost always do.
