Pokerabble is quite an intriguing game for Scrabble and Poker lovers. In a nutshell, you have 7 playing cards in your hand and the object of the game is to create poker hands of 2, 3, or 5 cards and place them on a Scrabble-like game board to accrue points. The types of hands that are acceptable to the app are clearly explained in conveniently placed “points chart” at the bottom left of the screen. Special bonus tiles that either add points to your score or multiply your current hand’s score, add to the strategy component of the game. Pokerabble has implemented a multiplayer, turn by turn system which will likely be the key to its success. You are able to play against anyone with the app including random opponents, as well as an online “computer competitor” the developers refer to as Mr. or Ms. Pokerabble. The game also contains the usual push notifications to alert you when it is your turn to go.
Pokerabble has the potential to be a tremendous app for these developers. To be able to combine two major games into one and include an online multiplayer component should help this app succeed quickly. As you would expect with a new game like this, the app can be quite buggy. My wife has tried to sign up a couple times on her iPhone 4 and the app just hangs, but I haven’t had any issues on my 4S. There are also a few reviews about crashing issues as well, but hopefully they get the bugs straightened out in future updates.
