Have you ever wondered how your smartphone compares to others? Well, you no longer have to wonder thanks to the AnTuTu Benchmark app for Android. In short, this is an app that you can use to benchmark your phone and find out how it compares to other models on the market.
WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO
Main Functionality
AnTuTu Benchmark is a program that is used to benchmark your Android phone. It is used to test key resources on your phone. This does include things like your memory, CPU, 2D and 3D graphical performance, and even the read and write speed of your SD card. At the end, you are given a number that you can use to compare your phone to other models.
Pros
- Benchmarks your phone and provides you with valuable information that you can use to compare your phone to others
- Tests this program runs includes: Memory Performance, CPU Integer Performance, CPU Floating Point Performance, 2D and 3D Graphics Performance, SD Card reading and writing speed, and Database IO
- Extremely easy to use, and sports a nice layout
- Gives you a choice to overclock your phone during testing
Cons
- App is extremely resource hungry when running benchmark test. This is to be expected, but if you get a phone call during the process things can get very “laggy”.
Discussion
I am one of those people who likes to know where my stuff ranks. No, I don’t need to have the biggest baddest piece of tech out there, but I like to know what my “stuff” can do. That is why I decided to give AnTuTu Benchmark a try. I wanted to see where my “myTouch 4G” ranked among other phones.
As it turns out, AnTuTu Benchmark is a pretty easy-to-use app. After downloading it, I was able to run a test on my phone right away. It quickly went through the process of running the following tests: Memory Performance, CPU Integer Performance, CPU Floating Point Performance, 2D and 3D Graphics Performance, SD Card reading and writing speed, and Database IO. There are other benchmark apps out there that check for more, but I feel this gives you a pretty general idea of where your phone stands.
After the test is done, it shows you the results. On the first page, you can view your “number”. For example, the first test that I ran was 7263. I am sure I could have gotten a better score, but I didn’t think about stopping some of my apps that were still running in the background. From there, you can click on “chart” at the bottom of the app and see where your phone stacks up against others. With this test, it showed that my device was just above the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but below the Samsung Galaxy SII. You will see devices like the Kindle Fire listed on here as well.
The program does give you an option to overclock your device during testing. I did not do that, but I am sure that most people do when testing (just to improve their scores). So if you want a better comparison that may be something you want to consider.
Overall, I had no problem with the app except for how much system resources it uses. Now, I expected it to really put a hurting on your resources, as…well…that is what it is checking. However, you can’t control when you are about to get a phone call. So if something happens while the app is checking your phone, expect things to start lagging…bad.
CONCLUSION AND DOWNLOAD LINK
The AnTuTu Benchmark app is very easy to use and provides you with some good information. Although I think some of the results given are off a bit, I still recommend this app for people who want more detailed information about their phone. Could be a great app to help you compare phones the next time you go to buy one.
