These are the instructions to root Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A SM-G901F running on the Android 5.0.2 software update.
REQUIREMENTS
- Follow this guide to root the Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A variant with the model number SM-G901F only. You should find that’s the only LTE-A variant in the range; however, you can check that by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Model Number.
- The CF-Auto-Root package you are finding in this guide comes with the firmware build ID LRX22G.G901FXXU1BOK2 and is based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. You do not need to be running that LRX22G.G901FXXU1BOK2 firmware before rooting. However, you should use it as an indicator and update if you are running something that is much older. Some of the Samsung devices do not boot the older images.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
- Download your Samsung USB Drivers that are required for your smartphone and install them on the computer before you start the guide.
- You may need to unlock the Developer Options menu from your Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE device if you have not done that yet already. You do that by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number. Tap the build number 7 times and the software will tell you that you are now a developer.
- Enable the USB Debugging Mode from your Developer Options menu now on your S5 handset by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
- You can use the guide below running a stock recovery or a custom recovery. It doesn’t matter what recovery you are running on the S5 at this point. Likewise, it doesn’t matter which recovery you choose to run after you root the device using the CF-Auto-Root tool. However, those wanting to go on and install a custom ROM will want a custom recovery installed once you finish with the rooting guide.
