Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 GT-P5200These are the guidelines to root Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 GT-P5200 tablets running on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat software updates. The guide uses the Odin flashing tool and Chainfire’s CF-Auto-Root tool.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You must have a computer that is running Windows operating systems to use this guide or else the flash tool will not run.
  • You need the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 that has the GT-P5200 model number only; check yours by tapping the Menu > Settings > About Device > Model Number.
  • The rooting package you will find in this guide — Chainfire’s CF-Auto- Root — is based on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update and the KOT49H.P5200XXUBNH2 firmware.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • Download the Samsung USB Drivers for the Tab 3 device directly on the computer before you start the guide.
  • Enable the Developer Options on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 device by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number 7 times. It should tell you that you are using your Tab 3 as a developer now, which means the Developer Options menu is officially available for you to use on the tablet.
  • Enable the USB Debugging Mode on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
  • You need to backup the Samsung Galaxy tab 3 tablet if this is your first time rooting the device. The first-timers will be getting the bootloader unlocked automatically by the CF-Auto-Root tool and it will wipe your data when it does that.

  1. Download the updated CF-Auto-Root package for the P5200 device from this link.
  2. Download the Odin flash tool to flash files on the Tab 3 from this link.
  3. Extract both the files to the desktop of your computer by shifting them to the desktop from the default download location and then right-clicking on the file> extract there.
  4. Double-click the Odin executable file that is on the desktop and let it run on the computer.
  5. Press the Power button and choose to Power off the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 from the Device Options menu.
  6. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 device in download mode and then connect it to the computer with the USB cable.
  7. Click the PDA/AP button you can see from the Odin user-interface on the computer and upload your CF-Auto-Root-santos103g-santos103gxx-gtp5200.tar.md5 file.
  8. Do not make any changes from the user-interface of the Odin flashing tool.
  9. Click the Start button and Odin will now flash SuperSU on your device thanks to the updated CF-Auto-Root tool.
  10. Wait until the display of the Galaxy Tab 3 says it is about to reboot and then watch it reboot in recovery mode — this should happen automatically for you.

Any Galaxy Tab 3 that does not boot in recovery mode must be manually put in recovery mode by turning it off and then booting by holding the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together.

Anyone who is experiencing a device that does not boot should report that to the developer by posting over at the official CF-Auto-Root XDA Developers thread so that Chainfire can fix the problem.
