By rooting the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet, we are gaining full privileged control for the first time. No Android operating system comes with full privileged control by default. Instead, the prefer shipping it across all devices the same way—which is designed for maximum security.
A rooted Android operating system with Chainfire’s CF-Auto-Root tool is still as secure as it was originally because the SuperSU blocks all malware and will never let anything through until we ask it to, and that is where it becomes less safe. No longer do we have Android looking out for our mistakes.
As long as you have the ability to install trusted and real apps that are not malware, using the rooted Android operating system is no less secure than a non-rooted Android OS. What is different though is the fact that you now get to install many apps that were not available to install before. We have been through many of the names before Tasker, ROM Manager, Titanium Backup, Greenify, Root Firewall, Root App Deleter, Folder Mount, Build Prop Editor and Quick Boot just to name a few. These are all apps that would not run unless you have root access on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro. Now that they will run, it is possible to change your tablet in some ways. From increasing the performance to helping with installing ROMs, it is all at your fingertips.
REQUIREMENTS
- You need to have the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 that comes with the SM-P905M model number to use this guide. The CF-Auto-Root files are made for each model number and flashing it on the wrong model number results in that device getting bricked almost always.
- You must have a computer that is running a version of the Windows operating system to use this guide. The Odin flashing tool is what is required to be able to flash the CF-Auto-Root by Chainfire, and it only runs on Windows operating systems. People who cannot get a chance to sit in front of Windows and complete the guide can try running a Windows virtual machine environment from the Mac or Linux computer instead.
BEFORE WE BEGIN
- Chainfire was running the LRX22G.P905MUBUABOJ1 on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 SM-P905M when he created the rooting method found in this guide. You do not have to be running in that same firmware build number as him to use this guide. The following guide works if you are running on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop software update if you have the SM-P905M model number.
- New Android versions can bring new bootloaders, and the new bootloaders can temporarily stop the CF-Auto-Root tool from working until Chainfire updates the guide. The only way he can keep track is if people leave a message on the CF-Auto-Root tool thread made at the XDA-Developers website that has the new recovery image found in the new firmware creating the problems.
- Unlock the Developer Options menu on the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Build Number seven times. Don’t stop tapping on the build number until the Android operating system brings up a new message on the display stating that you are now using the device as a developer.
- Turn on the USB Debugging Mode on the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet from the Developer Options menu that you have just unlocked by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging. Once you age checked the box that is available there for the USB Debugging Mode leave the Developer Options menu for Android to remember your settings automatically.
- Install the Samsung USB Drivers on the Windows computer you are running Odin on so that the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 SM-P905M tablet can connect to the computer and get detected by the Odin flashing tool which then allows for the flashing to work.
